Clarity for the win

Just like career frenemies “worry” and “calm”, “overwhelm” and “clarity” would never be described as besties. They just have a whole different outlook and approach.

For instance, when did we start having to calendar time to use the restroom? Or, what about developing that critical presentation for the executive team? You need to be at your creative best but your mind is racing and you just can’t settle down to get started. These are both symptoms of overwhelm when what you actually want is clarity to do your best and most creative work in a reasonable environment.

Overwhelm feels like the huge weight of putting on a happy face every day amid crushing career anxiety, dread, and worry. It’s ambiguity and uncertainty when what you want is a clear vision to career ease. And, it’s feeling defeated at all that must be done in each minute of each day, over and over again, to keep your head above water.

Contrast this with clarity. Clarity gives you the space to calmly get things done without all the second and third-guessing if what you are currently doing is the best thing to be doing. No more fruitless attempts at multitasking. No more working and worrying through the weekends in an attempt to start on Monday with a clean to-do list and an empty email box. Also, enough time between meetings that you don’t have to schedule the bathroom break into your calendar.

While it may feel that it is quite a leap to jump from career dis(ease) to career ease, it is definitely achievable. In fact, for your state of health and the absence of dis(ease), it is a must.
