Self-Assessment: Discovering Your Strengths and Values in Your Mid-Career Journey

Have you ever felt like you're running on a professional treadmill, moving but not really getting anywhere? Today we’re going to dive deep into a critical first step of any meaningful career change: understanding yourself.

Why Self-Assessment Matters: In my experience, you can't chart a new course if you don't know your starting point. Self-assessment is like creating a personal GPS for your career journey – it helps you understand where you are, what resources you have, and which direction might lead to greater fulfillment.

Three Pillars of Self-Assessment

  1. Identifying Your Strengths: Most of us underestimate our capabilities. We're so focused on what we can't do that we forget to celebrate where we excel. Take a moment and ask yourself: What tasks make me lose track of time? When do I feel most energized at work? What compliments do I consistently receive from colleagues?

  2. Understanding Your Core Values: Your values are the compass that guides your professional decisions. They're non-negotiable principles that define what truly matters to you.

  3. Recognizing Your Transferable Skills: Your skills are more versatile than you think. That project management experience? It's valuable in multiple industries. Your ability to communicate complex ideas? That's gold in any field.

Try these simple steps:

  1. Take at least one professional assessment (I like the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and use these assessments with my clients)

  2. Journal about your findings

  3. Identify 3-5 potential career paths that align with your strengths

  4. Schedule informational interviews in those fields

If you're ready to take decisive action towards your career transformation, I invite you to join my upcoming workshop: “5 Keys to a Quick and Easy Mid-Career Transition (and Transformation)!”  Together, we'll dive deep into strategies for navigating this challenging but exciting phase of your professional life.

Remember, a mid-career crisis doesn't have to be a crisis at all. It can be the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your life.

The workshop will take place on December 4, 2024 at noon PT. It’s free, but don’t wait because there are a limited number of spots. Register here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcsc-2vpzopHNV3bMF0Gf2J5RFO_4Osk1u1
